After a chance conversation on Social media Hawkins in conjunction with St Mewan School and St Mewan Parish Council recently ran a competition to design some additional signs for the Parish Parks.

With the increased usage of our outside spaces during the last 18 months the Parish Parks have been suffering from increased littering. Despite the Parish council arranging extra collections the waste bins have been filling very quickly and unfortunately on occasions overflowing. A little reminder was needed to tell people if the bins were full to take their rubbish home.

St Mewan School was approached via the headteacher Mrs E Badger and the students were asked to design signs that got the message across.

Mr John Kneller and Mrs Wendy Yelland from St Mewan Parish Council were asked to pick the winners. As it turned out there were such a large number of great entries they struggled to find just one winner settling in the end for three different designs.

Hawkins in-house marketing team then turned them into durable signs to be fitted in the parks.

Robert Perry Dealer Principal of Hawkins Hyundai St Austell who suggested the idea of a competition commented "living in one of the parish villages its great to work with the community to help protect the great resources the Parish Council provide. This generation of school children are more environmentally aware than I was at that age and its great so many wanted to get involved. As a business we are seeing a huge increase in the sale of our electric and hybrid models so hopefully this means we are all thinking a bit more about our own impact on the planet.
